I love how these easy DIY skulls turned out, actually I’m not sure if you could even label it as a DIY, it’s really just a fun painting craft. They’re so fun and so cute to look at too! I can’t decide where in our house to put them because they work in so many places! I currently have them on our piano lined up so it has an ombre vibe to it (without actually being ombre at all lol). I’m not sold on the piano decor just yet (it’s one of the hardest spots for me to decorate, I struggle with it all the time). The pop of pink is so pretty though so the skulls might stay here idk.
Here’s what I used to make them! You will need some plastic skulls, craft paint and painting supplies. That’s it!
I grabbed a whole bunch of these skulls from the Dollar Store last week, they’re $1.25 each here in Canada, along with some craft paint from Michaels. Each skull took 2-3 coats and in hindsight, I would have spritzed them all with a coat of primer to ensure a good ‘stick’ of the paint but alas, I did not do that.
The paint colours I used:
From left to right: Coral, Conch Shell, Vanilla, Yellow Ochre and Burgundy.
This is so customizable, you could paint them all different shades of grey, or gold skulls would look cool. I love the pinks and think they add a nice little pop of colour. I put them on the piano just until I figured out where I wanted them to go… but I actually think they look really cute!
I was playing around with what I had in the house already, switched the plants around a bit and added this little ‘Hey Boo’ garland. Henry the skeleton is perched on the ledge as well, the kids love him and have affectionately named him that lol.
The little Hey Boo garland is my favourite, it’s a little craft I did with my kids a few years ago and the spiders are their little handprints. It’s a fun festive craft to do with them and I have the step by step how-to on my Instagram. Just swipe through my highlights and find the one labelled ‘Hey Boo’ garland 🙂
I found these skulls specifically at our Dollar Tree in town, I’m not sure what other dollar stores carry them but lmk in the comments if you find them elsewhere! I have some more Halloween decor inspo coming so subscribe to my blog (below) so you don’t miss any!
I also shared the DIY video over on my Tiktok – come say hi!
