Creating A Bright and Sunny Living Room

I tend to naturally veer towards neutrals *looks around home at everything in different shades of beige lol*, however, it’s always so fun to create spaces and design boards and mix and match different aesthetics. I wanted to put together a cute, sunshine filled living room space with bright pops of yellow everywhere. It’s SO cheery and bright I love it! Honestly, it still has my design style with the neutrals and simple larger pieces, but with a few specific colourful accents included. This is a great way to experiment in your home if you’re wanting to add in some colour and aren’t sure how.

Adding in a splash of summery citrus!

Take a peek at my design board and the accent pieces with colour – things like throw pillows, blankets, planters (I love using baskets for plants). The main focal point, being this gorgeous couch that’s under $500, which is a simple neutral so it’s used as a great base for more colourful accent pieces like the fun yellow.

While I love a classic, minimal, boho design, I could absolutely get behind this living room lol. It’s such a happy space! I think I need to try and get that woven side table in my life, it would be perfect for inside or outside right?

Walmart Home in the US has some amazing pieces, especially their new Citrus Summer Line where most of these items are sourced from. Check out this amazing chair! I adore the bright yellow! It’s so posh and I think it would look incredible as a desk chair as well! It comes in a variety of colours too (who else is eyeballing the blush pink!)

It’s all in the details with the gold legs and pretty tufting. Plus it’s vellllllllvet. So good.

The best thing about the items I used in my design board is that they could all be mixed and matched throughout your home! I’m a huge advocate for shopping your home and love incorporating pieces that can be used multiple ways or switched into different spaces. I get bored easily lol, so I like to rearrange my furniture and have fun.

Being a plant mama and bringing greenery into your home

If you’re wanting to add in some pretty plants like I did in the living room I created, there are some great faux options available… (personally, I adore the real thing. Some hardy options if you’re looking to incorporate some real plants are the snake plant. It’s amazing and you basically cannot kill a snake plant lol. Spider plants are really cute on a shelf trailing down or hanging in a pot and they just need a little water and light to thrive. Lastly, my other favourite plant is the pothos! I have them all over my home plus they’re so easy to propagate and make new plants for free!)

If you don’t have a green thumb, here are some beautiful faux options from Walmart that are also super affordable!

Some tips for mixing and matching colours in your home:

First and foremost, feel free to decorate with what makes you happy! There isn’t any right or wrong way! If you’re wanting to find colours that compliment each other and wondering how to mix and match, here’s my favourite tips:

  • incorporate touches of black to a space – this grounds the space and adds depth, especially if you have a lot of light neutrals
  • choose one dominant colour, like yellow in my design board, and bring in one or two colours to use sparingly alongside. I have yellow as the main colour – using it with the chair and then in the pillow. A simple pop of blush pink adds some interest and I used a fun green pillow to accent with the greenery from the plants. Black and white is the neutral base in my design board.
  • green and pink look amazing together imo
  • blue with pops of yellow (hello colour wheel magic lol)
  • browns and greens with a pink accent

I mean, I could go on and on, any colour can work together as long as you use my rule of 3 – one main colour and then 2 colours to accent 🙂

Doubling up decor for inside & outside!

Here’s some beautiful multi-purpose pieces that would work both inside and outside. This chair is gorg – I love the lines on it. It works perfectly for the patio and come fall bring it inside, toss a faux sheepskin throw and add some fluffy pillows. Clustering those pretty vases together on a shelf or console table (you can buy grouped together or separately) and popping some bright buds into the vases is a beautiful look.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions lmk below!

Thank you to Walmart Home for sponsoring this fun post! I had a blast creating a bright, beautiful living room space using inspiration from their Citrus Summer line.
