Make Your Own Anthropologie Pillow Dupe!

I love Anthro so much, but the closest store is 4.5 hours away so I rarely get to pop in. I love their pillows and how cozy and textured they are, but they’re also over $100 for a lumbar pillow. I cannot fathom that amount on a pillow when I have two young kids LOL. So I made my own version and love it just as much! Bonus, if the kids spill on it or start pulling out threads, I’m not going to have a heart attack over it 😉 My DIY Anthro pillow cost me around $25 to make. TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS. I’ll share how I made this and I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Basically, this started with me browsing HomeSense…

and while I was in the the rug section, I noticed these gorgeous, fluffy throw rugs. I found a few that I really liked – with lots of tassels and textured stripes and thought they might make a really beautiful pillow.

I bought this black and white rug – it was $24.99!

To turn this rug into a pillow,

you need some strong thread (I used button thread, but denim thread would be great too). Join the sides together, if there is a pattern like mine, make sure to line it up as you sew. I then sewed up one end, leaving the other open to stuff the pillow.

For the stuffing, I used two pillows that I had. You could definitely be fancy and buy some pillow stuffing from the fabric store haha, but I have a bunch of pillows that I wasn’t using so this was a great way to upcycle them. I cut the pillow case and took the stuffing out. My large lumbar pillow took two pillows worth of stuffing.

I had to fluff up and rearrange the stuffing inside a bit so it laid properly. Then I sewed up the other side.

I love it – it has serious Anthro vibes for a fraction of the price!

There are so many ways to customize this! Honestly, a store like HomeSense (or HomeGoods if you’re in the states) has tons of these really cute throw rugs. There’s so much texture and tassels, they make the best Anthropologie dupe pillows.

I’m obsessed with those chunky tassels!

I have it in the living room on our (giant) sectional. It’s so cozy in here! I think it would look amazing on a bed too!

I’m sharing this a bit more over on IG – if you make one tag me in your posts so I can share!

  1. I’m in GP 🙂 our closest Anthro is in Edmonton lol so I rarely make it into one! And honestly I don’t know that I could spend $100+ on a pillow! So this is the next best thing lol. Thanks for reading!

  2. Love this idea!!! Thanks so much. Where about do you live? I’m in Sherwood Park, Alberta. I live close-ish to Anthropologie but have given up even walking in. I love the store but way way over our budget.
