I have been crushing on marble utensil crocks for sooo long and cannot find one for the life of me (that is under $50 because honestly, that’s crazy for a utensil crock). So while I have my eyes open as I stalk Home Sense, I decided to take matters into my own hands and DIY one like the crafter that I am.
I LOVE when a DIY turns out!
And this one turned out better than I expected tbh. It’s not a big project by any means, but sometimes the easiest ones are the best! I had this white vase from Micheal’s and knew it would be perfect for my little marble hack. If you are making one for yourself, make sure that the sides of the vase/container you are using don’t curve at all, having them straight up and down makes this a million times easier.
How to make your own ‘marble’ crock:
I gave the vase a clean and dried it off, then trimmed out a piece of marble wrapping paper to size. This paper is the best! It was a Home Sense find ($4 for a huge roll) and the pattern is gorgeous! It’s the paper that I will never use to wrap a gift with because I think I will die a little bit inside seeing it torn apart.
^^ (Notice my plastic folding table?? This was when we were waiting on our new kitchen table that took about 5 times longer to arrive than we expected lol #sofancy )
I used double sided tape, carefully applying it to the paper, then rolling the paper around the vase and using the tape to secure the edge. I only used it on the vertical edge, no reason to make this any harder than it has to be hah.
If you need to trim it up a bit, an exacto-knife works perfectly.
Isn’t it lovely! It’s obviously not real marble, but it’s as close as I can get for a free project/free ‘marble’ utensil crock (considering I had everything on hand already).
I store our wooden spoons in it and I love how it looks in our kitchen. The paper that I used (Home Sense has the best quality imo) is really thick as well, and if needed, you could give it a quick wipe down without affecting the quality of it. Another great option would be to use marble contact paper, it would be much more durable if it gets wet.
Love this DIY? Pin for later!
