A Little Main Bathroom Makeover

DIY wooden towel hooks and a bathroom makeover!

I am slowly giving our little main floor bathroom a mini makeover. Nothing crazy because it’s a cute bathroom – it just needs a little facelift that’s all. It’s the only bathroom on our main floor and is used by our kid’s and guests alike, so I don’t want it to be too ‘themed’. I made these shelves shortly after we moved in to give a little additional storage to this space (because there is none) plus I love having a little spot for decor and pretty things.

I love shelves. There I said it.

I tend to put them up everywhere if I don’t watch myself lol. So I built these and I did this before I made any sort of design plan (which, now that I’m making them for our home and the rooms in our house, just wow, it makes a big difference when you have a direction that you want to go versus just putting stuff up).

Here’s my design board for the main bathroom. I made this in PicMonkey and I swear by this now – it makes putting a space together so much easier now!

And here’s where we are currently at, I just snapped it quickly showing post kid chaos in the bathroom, post bath and just general normal life.

A couple things that I will be changing:

I want to ditch the towel bar asap. I hate towel bars, especially in busy bathrooms and ESPECIALLY in a kid’s bathroom. They can’t dry anything on a towel bar, kid’s can’t hang up towels on a towel bar and you can’t fit enough towels on a towel bar. It’s gotta go. I’m making a natural wood towel rack to go here and I can’t wait to put it up.

Next I want to get a new, brighter and more neutral shower curtain. While I loved this one in our old house, it has the same vibe as this floral Urban Outfitter’s one that I liked, but with a much more affordable price tag, I just think in this space, since you see it from the main level and it isn’t a big room, something more neutral will open up the bathroom a little bit.

I also haven’t decided if I’m doing anything with my shelves at the moment. I love the shelving in my design board but I’m not sure where to find that style nor do I want to take down the ones I bought and put up new ones aka more holes in the wall. My husband might have a stroke. Another option would be to simply paint them white and leave the brackets black. So this is undecided.

Other than that I have been toying with the idea of adding a little DIY washi tape wall paper in a fun little design. Just to make it a little fun and because it’s completely removable, no harm no foul.

I’m taking my time with this update because I’m also working on the rest of our house plus I have two toddlers. It will literally take me 2 weeks to take down the shower curtain, much less anything else. So I’ll share the reveal when I’m done but I’m not putting a time stamp on this LOL.

What do you think of the bathroom look?

I didn’t include an image of the washi tape idea in my design board because I’m not totally sold on it but it’s a fun idea! Have you done that sort of thing before?

Thanks for popping by!
Cheers! M
