An Easy Way To Make Your Living Room Extra Cozy

I’m always looking for ways to make our home feel cozy and lived in, especially since it’s a fairly new home and very open concept.  We have these amazing huge windows on the main wall and they have needed a little love to frame them out basically since we moved in. Since this wall touches our living room and dining room and faces our backyard and like 7 other homes, we desperately needed some blinds to provide some privacy. We quickly bought and installed some cordless pleated shades, they worked like a charm and got the job done, but leave a little to be desired decor-wise if I’m being honest :).

I knew I wanted to eventually hang up some curtains,

so when Barn & Willow reached out to me about working together I obviously said yes! They create stunning custom window treatments and the curtains they sent me are perfect. I choose lined curtains, they have small weights along the bottom of the panels to help them hang beautifully. I choose some black hardware to go along with the white curtains and hung one panel on each the right and left sides of the window plus 2 in the middle. I was originally going to go with three panels in the middle but it just looked like a little too much fabric. I’ll share a little before & after so you can see how hanging curtains adds a layer of cozy to a room.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually shared a full pulled back shot like this – you can see how open concept our home is and that’s the main floor is just one giant room. We tried to divide the spaces a little bit and then adding in all the textures, layers and plants makes a world of difference right!

I made a few other changes to make our living room cozy…

I also changed our throw pillow covers, adding in some browns and blush pinks plus I ended up switching out the little kid’s chair I have around our coffee table for some black ones that suit it better.

I spent an evening repotting some plants and hung up a few macrame hangings on our curtain rod (the purple inch plant is perfect for hanging planters, same with a pothos!). I feel like lots of layers and textures really create a feeling of home, so I love finding ways to add them in.

Thanks so much for checking out The Blush Home!

  1. It was from Costco actually – I bought it in store. They usually get their couches in around spring. I haven’t seen it on their website though, unfortunately.

  2. What is the brand of this couch? Love the texture and depth!

  3. I was really interested in the segments of your article that talked about how those huge windows were the things you decorated around when you made your living room cozy. Having large windows can really let us feel more open about living inside the house all the time, something we feel our current house does not allow us to do. Once I find a window replacement contractor in the area, I’ll definitely make sure I get windows as large as these ones.
