You guys, a good nights sleep is so not over rated. I feel like I haven’t had a good nights sleep in years. I’m a mom of two toddlers (and a wife to a husband who snores). I almost gave up on a good nights sleep tbh because it felt near impossible. My kids (finally) sleep through the night, which is amazing ::knocks on wood:: but my hubby still snores and our previous mattress was so annoyingly uncomfortable both my husband and I always woke up so stiff and sore! Like, I just welcomed the thirties and I’m not old enough to be feeling like an 80-year-old LOL. I was really excited to test out the new Simba hybrid mattress with Sleep Country. It’s not a stand alone foam mattress, because it incorporates coils and foam. So you get the support and comfort from both. It definitely peaked my interest but I kept my expectations low, tbh, only because I didn’t even know what a great nights sleep felt like anymore. I’m sharing five really awesome ways to make your bed super cozy and how to have a great nights sleep!

Let’s get things cozy!

First things first, it’s important to invest in some comfortable linens. These don’t have to break the bank by any means either you guys. I found an amazing linen sheet set at HomeSense on clearance and they are by far the coziest sheets I’ve ever slept on! They’re light and airy and cool yet warm, I even use the flat sheet (which I never have before because I always feel  a little like it’s attacking my legs halfway through the night lol). So I def recommend a linen set! I kept things simple with white bedding but added a pop with some cute linen blush pink pillowcases I found online. I’ve recently started doubling up on the duvets as well. I have two light to medium weight ones (both with basic white duvet covers on them) and when I make my bed I keep one duvet folded at the bottom of the bed for a cushy, cozy look.

Making things look pretty with a few extras…

I snagged these pillow covers last year from H&M (my favourite place for cute & inexpensive pillow covers) – they add some texture to our bed and help break up all the white. Then this chunky knit mini throw I drape over the end of our bed. The biggest change in our sleeping though was the addition of a new Simba Mattress – I have to share why we love it so much and the impact it had on our sleep!

Let’s start off with the packaging:

How cute and compact is this mattress?? We had it delivered and my hubby carried the box right up to our room. It’s definitely heavy (there’s still a king size mattress in there!) but we both loved how easy it was to get the mattress into our room and that it could be delivered like that.

Now, how to get the mattress out of the box.

We opened up the box and there was a little blade included for opening up the plastic encasing. They’ve thought of everything lol! I grabbed the little pamphlet that was included and read up on the Simba mattress a little bit while Kiel cut open the plastic. Then we laid the mattress on the bed, it was compressed and rolled up and all squished. So we unfolded it and then let it inflate. After around 4 hours it opens up enough that we would be able to sleep on it, but to retain it’s full shape it takes around 24 hours.

So, how was the sleep and was it comfortable??

I want to preface this by saying that my husband is a former hockey player with sore shoulders, knees and back. Our previous mattress left him so stiff and sore every. single. morning. (and we had bought one of those all foam mattresses that are everywhere *disclaimer*) so we weren’t sure what to expect. Okay are you ready?? He had an amazing sleep! He said he felt great in the morning and it was a huge difference from our previous mattress. I think the coils help with the support and honestly, my sleep was amazing too. It’s a very firm mattress, but not in an uncomfortable way. It’s just cozy and comfortable and if I could now just get to bed at a decent hour I think I could take on anything in the mornings lol!

Some info about the Simba mattress:

  • This is a really firm mattress. It’s firm, but very comfortable. I don’t have any neck pain or stiffness like before in the mornings so while it’s firm, it’s very supportive while sleeping.
  • There’s a breathable cover to help with air flow, so neither Kiel and I found that we were too hot while sleeping.
  • There’s no washable cover that comes with but Kiel and I have always used a mattress protector and you can find them anywhere, Simba does offer their own for purchase though.
  • It, unfortunately, does not stop a husband from snoring :-/ #can’twiththemall

To recap how we made our bed into a super cozy haven:

  1. I invested in some new sheets – and snagged some awesome linen sheets on clearance! (Highly recommend going with a linen too – love the feel of it!)
  2. We added a cute pop of colour with some pillow cases.
  3. Add in a little texture and interest with some throw pillows (I’m not a fan of excessive pillows, we just toss the two off and we’re ready to sleep). I found a cute chunky wool throw as well which I love so much.
  4. Double up the duvets – we have two on the lighter weight and fold one at the base of your bed for an extra fluffy and extra cushy bed. For an inexpensive duvet tip – pick them up at Ikea, my mother in law swears by their duvets and she has the comfiest beds ever at her home.
  5. Try out Sleep Country’s new hybrid Simba mattress! If you’re in the market for a new mattress, I highly recommend looking into Simba at Sleep Country. They have a 100-night comfort guarantee too, so if you find that you don’t love it like you hoped, they will pick it up and refund you the money. That’s pretty amazing imo.
