How To Create A Tiny Office – Office Tour!

I’ve been wanting to create an office space for myself for ages. Lately, I’ve been using our couch and coffee table or sitting hunched over on our bed typing away on my laptop, and my back doesn’t love either of those options. I need some sort of desk/chair/back support because #thisisthirty. Our home doesn’t have any additional bedrooms for an office and our basement is unfinished currently, so no way in hell do I want to hang out there and work lol. It had to be a spot that was cozy, comfortable and functional, but also pretty 🙂 I realized we had a tiny little nook behind our bedroom door…

I mean, it’s only THIRTY INCHES WIDE.

Could you even call that a nook? But I saw potential! I envisioned a little spot with a desk and chair and maybe a plant. Minimal and clean so it didn’t make our bedroom feel cluttered, but a functional space as well!

Here’s somewhat of a before (it was a screenshot from a video). I broke the cardinal rule of blogging by not taking a bunch of before photos! The actual before consisted of an empty corner, and our big printer sat on the floor here, along with random stuff in a pile that needed to be put away lol. It was ‘that’ corner of our bedroom.

I decided to try my hand at colour blocking

… and I loooove it! It’s a fun way to add a little interest with out making this spot too ‘busy’. The TRICK is to use a string and pencil to create a nice, smooth circle shape. Do not free hand this. I repeat do not freehand this. Using a tack to secure the string and pencil in the middle of where I wanted my half circle to be, I simply traced out the shape. I tried it on the one wall, but ultimately decided to colour block the wall that my desk would be facing. I mixed up a muted terra cotta colour and painted it all in (I made a fun video on my Instagram if you want to check it out!)

I made a few shelves and used painters tape to space out where I wanted them to be before hanging them up. I kept the shelves small and opted for no brackets to keep it feeling minimal, then painted them the same colour as our wall.

Then came the fun part – putting it all together!

I built the desk (it took me a while to hunt down a 30″ wide desk LOL) and styled the shelves. I shopped our house for all of the shelf decor and painted the boob print. It was a fun little addition!

What do you guys think! My favourite part of this is knowing that I took the smallest little corner that was unusable really for anything. It’s been a clutter collector in our room and our printer was stashed here too. Then I turned it into a cute little office space!

I love coming up here and being able to work at a desk as well as have a place to store all the little office things that didn’t have a home before. If you have a smaller home too, hopefully this inspires you that you don’t need a massive room to make an office or huge spaces to create a spot in your home that is functional AND pretty.
