This summer, on those warm, lazy days, Bear and I wandered through a few garage sales. I picked up a few cute items for some incredible prices, and these little basket-type trays were too cute to pass. Plus I scored the 3 of them for just $1. The original colour was fine, very light and neutral though. I knew I could give them some life and I had the perfect spot for them too!
When I first saw them, I immediately thought of our main level bathroom and how they would go perfectly on the bare wall in there. Currently, that bathroom is really bright and light, so I was craving a little contrast.
(you can see how the darker stain brings out the pretty weaving detail ♥)
I used my dark walnut stain and a foam brush, giving the trays a good coat of stain. I did this outside because holy hell that stain is pungent! So be warned, it’s pretty toxic smelling. I didn’t let the stain sit on the trays long, just until I was done coating everything, and then I wiped it all off and left it outside to dry completely.
(For this type of basket weave, I found it easiest to lightly cover the basket in sections with stain, then pounce with the foam brush into the crevices. Then wipe everything off after the whole basket has been stained.)
I used the tiniest of nails to secure these to the wall. I love the natural, rustic vibe they give this room.
