This cute little stool was a craigslist-type online find. It was in great shape and I think I paid around $10 for it. At first, it lived under the counter in our laundry room until I found a home for it in our house. After I finished up our baby girl’s nursery, I found the perfect spot… it would fit snugly beside the glider in our little one’s room.
The current colour was all wrong though, I’m not a fan of light oak and figured some chalk paint would spiff it up quickly. Since I was planning on using chalk paint for the top, minimal prep was needed. I just gave the seat a light sanding, then wiped it off with a damp rag.
I used a Rustoleum chalk paint in aged grey, and gave the seat one coat.
^ don’t mind the crazy lighting, we lose light around 4pm here!
After it dried, I sanded lightly over the top again, just to even things out and lightly distress along the edges. Using Picmonkey, I made a little stencil using the bodoni xt font, printed it out the size I wanted, and then cut out the number and traced it on the stool.
I had a small jar of white chalk paint from a previous project, and with a small paintbrush, I filled in the stencil with 2 coats. To finish this simple diy off, I sanded over the top again, distressing the number lightly, then applied a light coat of wax to the top.
How cute is it now??
It’s the perfect little table for a glass of water and snack when I’m nursing my babe. I love how this turned out and it was a quick evening project for me while I watched the latest RHOBH 🙂
