Spring Updates In Our Kitchen

Spring Updates In Our Kitchen - Adding spring touches to your home - simple ways to decorate for spring | A Dash Of Mum Blog

January and February are cold months here, the temperatures have actually dipped to -50°c (seriously, what is even happening).  I have been in full on hibernation mode with the kids, and when I’m inside for that long, I start tinkering with things and redecorating.

I made a few updates in our kitchen, bringing in some fresh, spring decor, but I also switched out our light switches and plug-ins for these gorgeous, sleek ones from LeGrand’s Radiant Line of switches and outlets.  I chose all white, because that it currently what we have in the house, but they have the prettiest graphite colour, as well as several other colours to choose from (the nickel is gorgeous too).  I love how it updates the kitchen!  I was nervous to switch everything out myself, but I can assure you that all of my fretting was for nothing.  This was a breeze!

Literally, if I can do this (I’ve never done anything electrical) than you can too!

After turning off the power in the control panel (test by plugging something into the outlets before starting to make sure the power is off!), take off the wall plate and unscrew the plug-in. Mine had 5 wires in total – white is neutral and black is hot, and then there is the grounding wire.  My wires were really easy to keep track off, but our house is only a few years old, so this might be different depending on the home.  (My dad gave me a quick tip: black to brass always, so the brass screws match up with the black wires.)

I started with our island plug-ins; I switched out our normal plug-in for a usb plug-in, and I’m in love.  Kiel and I are always charging our phones and ipads at this spot on the counter, so not having several bulky chargers makes this space feel so much tidier.

Once the plug-ins were switched, I installed the screwless wall plates.  They look so pretty in our kitchen!  I love how minimal they look.  Here’s a quick before and after:

It’s a simple change but it makes a big impact!  I went through our kitchen, changing out the plug-ins and wall plates for my new plug-ins (I went with normal ones for most of the kitchen) and screwless wall plates (love).

Lastly, I wanted to try out the multiple setting night-light plug-ins.  We don’t have under cabinet lighting, so I thought this would be an easy way to illuminate the countertop in the evenings.  These would be perfect for a bathroom or child’s bedroom as well.

I actually couldn’t believe how much light this plug-in provided.  There are 4 settings and when they are turned on, they have a sensor to illuminate when it’s dark.  The brightest setting puts out so much light, it’s perfect for evenings when I want the kitchen lights off but would like to see what I’m doing when getting a snack haha.

The rest of the kitchen received a little refreshing as well…

I updated my kitchen shelves with some pretty spring prints, added a little contrast with touches of black, and of course moved my plants around as well.

The stand mixer was moved to our pantry, freeing up our counters a bit, and I added this clementine print with a plant to this corner.

Along with these spring touches, I went through and removed anything I didn’t use or love.  Decluttering is a simple way to clean up a space as well.  It’s all in the details, and these easy kitchen updates have given this space a much brighter look.  I love how fresh and springy the kitchen feels now!
