Hide Your Cable Box With This Easy Hack!

I’ve been asked many times through my Instagram dm’s where our cable box is. We have a really small mantel, and there’s no nook for a cable box to be tucked into (our last house had a built in shelf to hide it underneath the tv). I knew I didn’t want cords hanging everywhere and even if I wanted to put our cable box on the mantle, it would never have fit anyways. To keep things looking really clean and minimal, I came up with a little hack to hide our cable box.

I never intended for this to be a permanent solution, but when it ended up working awesome, we just decided to keep it up. Okay, don’t laugh, because this is such a ridiculous DIY but it’s also super easy for anyone to do! If you’re tired of having cable boxes sitting out and cords dangling from your tv or sitting on your mantle, I have the perfect solution!

What you’ll need…

– An Ikea folder (or something similar)
– Velcro command strips

I used what I had on hand, which was an Ikea folder. I had a bunch of these downstairs so I improvised with one. I originally wanted to buy a cable box holder from Amazon, but they were like $80! Which seemed crazy, plus it would have taken around a week or so to get here. And I wanted the cords gone asap, they had already been driving me crazy since we moved in to our new place. So I grabbed an Ikea folder, trimmed off the top part to make a square/rectangle shape and then used some velcro command hooks and stuck it to the wall behind our tv.

That’s it. Wow hey.

We have painted brick on our fireplace and the command hooks have had no problem gripping. After I stuck the box up, I let the command hook cure overnight and then stuck our cable box in it the next day.

Are you thinking ‘but how am I going to change channels now’??

Turns out the signal just needs something to bounce off of in order for the pvr or cable box to receive it. So the brick wall isn’t the best, a normal wall would be better, but it works just fine!

You guys have to try this out if you are wanting to conceal your cable box and don’t know how. It’s seriously the easiest little DIY and makes this whole area so neat and tidy. If you do this hack, share on Instagram and I’ll repost in my stories tagging you!

Have a great day!
